C N Dillon - General Artist's Statement

Bio
CNDillon creates using a variety of media including painting, drawing, video, audio, and digital imaging. He works as a freelance designer/illustrator and regularly exhibits paintings at local art fairs and regional science fiction conventions. CNDillon grew up in Northern Ohio, studied art in various schools, including Ohio University, and has been doing this sort of stuff since he was old enough to hold a crayon.

Statement
CNDillon likes to think his creations are ready and willing to speak for themselves. However, in case they're feeling shy, here are a few words about concept and inspiration. Generally, his artwork is illustrative, intended to spark and entice the curiosity of viewers, triggering stories in their imaginations. Sometimes the stories exist before the image and in some cases the story develops as the image develops. Frequently there is a psychological or subconscious element that is integral to the work. Whether moving pictures, static images, or sound recordings, CNDillon's works are designed to entertain as they evoke moods and trigger contemplation.

Much of CNDillon's inspiration has come from Day Glo posters of the 1960s and 70s, "fun houses" at amusement parks and carnivals, psychedelic album covers, early modernism, Rock ‘n' Roll music, science and speculative fiction stories, comic books, old movies, surrealism, and "alternative" fashion of the mid-late twentieth century.

The craft behind the paintings involves fairly standard practices, usually applied with thin, sometimes translucent layers. Occasionally flourescent paints and black velvet are employed to create distinctive lighting effects.
If you want to know about technique details, CNDillon will be happy to personally answer any specific questions. He may be accosted in person or contacted via the e-mail address: cndillon@escapistart.com
He does not own or operate any sort of mobile telephone.
